Description from the seller
Subject: Pisside (host holder)
Scope: Sacred art – Neapolitan goldsmithing
Period: Late 18th century (post 1781)
Origin: Private Italian collection
Dimensions: 21 x 9 x 9 cm
Weight: 431 g
Material: Gilded silver (vermeil)
Technique: Casting, chasing, engraving, punch-marking and gilding
Stamps: Mark “SP star”
Important gilded-silver pisside, attributable to the refined Neapolitan goldsmith production of the late 18th century, characterized by a high level of craftsmanship and an elaborate iconographic program.
The cup, with harmonious and balanced lines, is completed by a hinged cover with a molded upper grip. The surface, finely worked, preserves a warm and even gilding that enhances the purity of the forms.
A particularly noteworthy element is the figural base, conceived as a true three-dimensional sculpture, where a symbolic narrative of strong theological content develops.
The three figures at the base are clearly attributable to a well-defined Christian symbolic program:
* Dove
Representation of the Holy Spirit, according to traditional iconography. The presence of the dove introduces a direct reference to the divine dimension and to consecration.
• Christ Pantocrator with Cross in hand.
• Kneeling figure
Related to the Adoration or the devotion of the believing soul. The praying and concentrated pose expresses submission and participation in the Eucharistic mystery.
We guarantee adequate packaging; shipping will be made express and insured with UPS 24/48H.
