Gilded bronze relief plaque featuring Saint Joseph and the Child Jesus among angels and clouds
Rectangular plaque in mercury-gilded bronze, worked in relief and finished with chasing, with Saint Joseph holding the Child Jesus, who is holding a small cross. The Saint, with halo and long cloak, is depicted standing on a sea of clouds; at his feet is the blooming staff, a typical symbol of Saint Joseph.
Above the scene a Dove of the Holy Spirit radiates numerous rays across the entire upper field; among the clouds and rays are several putti and winged heads, modeled with care. The clouds are rendered with dense chased scales and scrolls, creating a beautiful play of light on the gilding. On the back, with a dark patina and irregular surface, there is a small central through bolt for mounting.
The plaque is mercury-gilded bronze (fire gilding).
