Description from the seller
Beautiful hand-knotted Berber / Kilim runner rug with a geometric pattern – 145 x 85 cm – 2120 g
Beautiful handmade rug / runner, characterized by a rich and detailed geometric pattern in warm tones such as ochre yellow, red, brown, white and subtle accents of blue. This decorative textile object combines traditional craftsmanship with a timeless aesthetic and forms a cozy focal point in both classic and modern interiors.
Origin & Style
Origin: North Africa / Middle East (traditional nomadic or semi-nomadic weaving culture).
Style: Traditional geometric rug / runner with tassels at the ends. The composition is built from repeating horizontal bands and medallions, typical for authentic handwoven rug art.
Materials & How it is made
Technique: Fully handmade and hand-knotted/weaved by experienced artisans.
Materials: Natural high-quality wool on a sturdy warp, dyed with traditional (natural or semi-synthetic) dyes that ensure deep, warm pigments.
Weight: 2120 grams – a sign of solid, dense knotting and sturdy quality.
Age
Dating: Second half of the 20th century (vintage). The rug exhibits a beautifully authentic character with light signs of use that suit its age and the artisanal origin.
Motifs & Meaning
The geometric motifs used have in traditional weaving cultures often a deeper symbolic meaning:
Diamond- and X-motifs: Traditionally used as protective symbols (talisman) against the evil eye and to wish for prosperity and fertility.
Horizontal bands: Often symbolize protection, a safe path in life and order within the tribe or daily life.
Color usage: Ochre yellow and red traditionally symbolize warmth, energy, strength and hospitality.
