Description from the seller
Boscarelli – Prugnolo 2024
Rosso di Montepulciano DOC
Lot of 6 bottles of 0.75 L
Prugnolo 2024 by Boscarelli is a Rosso di Montepulciano DOC that originates in Cervognano di Montepulciano, one of the historically most vocated areas of the region. It is designed to foreground the freshness and fruit of Sangiovese, locally called Prugnolo Gentile, complemented by Mammolo’s spice.
Grupo Meregalli
Boscarelli is a small and prestigious family operation founded in 1962. The De Ferrari Corradi family runs the Cervognano vineyards with particular attention to traditional varieties and the identity of the Montepulciano territory.
Prugnolo: Boscarelli’s Rosso di Montepulciano
Prugnolo has been produced as Rosso di Montepulciano since 1989, while the current label dates to 2003.
It stems from a selection of the younger vines, choosing grapes particularly rich in aroma and characterized by a more immediate structure. The goal is not to imitate the greater austerity of Vino Nobile, but to express a more fragrant, fresh and pleasant face of Boscarelli’s territory. The average declared production is about 20,000 bottles per year.
The territory
The vineyards are located in Cervognano, in the municipality of Montepulciano.
The soils are calcareous of alluvial origin, predominantly sandy but with a good presence of silt and clay. This combination contributes to the freshness, aromatic finesse and balance that characterize the Prugnolo.
Vintage 2024
For Prugnolo 2024, the available sheets indicate a clear predominance of Sangiovese Prugnolo Gentile, accompanied by Mammolo. The composition reported for this vintage is 85% Sangiovese Prugnolo Gentile and 15% Mammolo.
The grapes are hand-picked and transported in crates. After destemming and soft pressing, fermentation takes place in stainless steel vats with indigenous yeasts, for about a week at temperatures between 27 and 30 °C, with manual remontage and pigeage.
Ageing
An interesting feature of this wine is the choice to privilege fruit over wood influence.
Prugnolo matures for several months in vitrified cement tanks, where it also completes malolactic fermentation. Before bottling, a light filtration is performed.
The result is a particularly direct and terroir-driven Rosso di Montepulciano, in which the character of Sangiovese remains the protagonist.
Organoleptic characteristics
Prugnolo 2024 presents a bright ruby red colour with purplish reflections.
The aromatic profile is fresh and fragrant, dominated by marasca cherry and crunchy red fruits, with floral and spicy nuances.
On the palate it is fresh, juicy and medium-bodied, with lively acidity, well-defined fruit and balanced tannins. It is a wine that prioritizes elegance, drinkability and immediacy, while maintaining a precise Tuscan identity.
Falstaff described the 2024 vintage exactly for its freshness, fragrance and notes of marasca, flowers and a delicate marzipan nuance.
Vintage 2024 recognitions
Boscarelli Prugnolo 2024 has already received excellent evaluations:
91/100 – Falstaff
90/100 – Wine Spectator
A notably interesting result for a Rosso di Montepulciano conceived to combine quality, typicity and pleasant drinkability.
Label, capsule and level as shown in the photographs. The photographs are an integral part of the lot description.
