Description from the seller
Netherlands. Nine medals – Royal stained-glass windows of Orange-Nassau and the liberation of Wageningen – translucent glass inserts, 50 mm
Collection of nine medals from Edel Collecties’ “De Koninklijke Kerkramen van Oranje-Nassau” series, comprising six silver-plated examples and three gold-plated Premium editions.
The central feature is the coloured glass inset into each medal. When held against a light source or illuminated from behind, light passes through the window, revealing its colours and details with a striking stained-glass effect. The photographs show this transmitted-light effect, which is much less apparent when the medals are viewed against a dark background.
Contents
Six silver-plated medals reproducing sections of the Prins Willem window in the Nieuwe Kerk, Delft. Subjects include William I of Orange, Louis of Nassau, Charles V, Philip II, and Luther and Calvin.
Three gold-plated Premium editions featuring sections of the Liberation Memorial Window in the Grote Kerk, Wageningen: “De tirannie overwonnen”, “Vervolging” and “Wapen van Wageningen”.
Four certificates of authenticity.
Obverses
Pointed Gothic windows containing translucent coloured glass, surrounded by architectural views of the respective churches. The Delft examples identify the historical figures represented. The Wageningen examples bear “75 jaar bevrijding” and the dates 2019–2020.
Reverses
The coloured window remains visible from the reverse, flanked by heraldic shields, with the inscriptions “Koninkrijk der Nederlanden” and “Je maintiendrai”.
