AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Inca/Chanca terracotta pot with handle beside the rim – 13th to late 16th Century
A pre-Columbian Inca/Chanca pot with a globular body, wide mouth and gently everted rim. A small strap handle links the area beside the lip to the upper body. Its reddish surface has a porous texture, wear and dark patches in several areas, whose origin cannot be attributed solely to exposure to fire. The rounded base merges continuously into the walls. The broad opening makes the relationship between the rim and the rounded body easy to appreciate. The handle is small in relation to the reservoir and sits close to the mouth rather than projecting as a tall overhead arch. The exterior is largely undecorated, so the form, reddish fabric and variations in texture dominate its appearance. Dark areas also occur towards the base, while small pits and worn patches interrupt the walls. These visible marks are described without inferring the vessel's precise contents or original use.
Material: Terracotta
Dimensions: 15 x 20 cm
Weight: 280 gr
We guarantee the authenticity of the pieces, backed by the combined experience of our experts spanning more than 40 years.
