Description from the seller

Islamic Silver Ring with Engraved Obsidian and Ornamental Bezel - 17th to 19th Century AD

An Islamic silver ring with a raised, near-circular bezel containing an obsidian inset engraved with a winged insect. The design is arranged around an elongated central body, with four broad wings extending to either side. The engraved areas appear lighter than the surrounding black surface, making the motif clearly visible against the dark stone.

The obsidian is enclosed by a closely spaced series of pointed retaining elements. Beneath this border, the tall bezel is ornamented with circular and triangular openings, followed by rows of bead-like decoration and horizontal mouldings. The broad shoulders carry further relief ornament within defined panels, creating a richly textured transition from the elevated setting to the narrower lower hoop.

The silver retains contrasting bright high points and darker recessed areas. Surface wear, small pits and scratches are visible throughout, with a distinct seam or split visible in the lower hoop. The obsidian also displays abrasion and wear across its engraved surface. The combination of the insect motif, elevated openwork setting and densely decorated shoulders gives the ring a distinctive ornamental character.
