Vintage electric miner's safety lamp by Compagnie Auxiliaire des Mines, Douai (France), dating from the 1920s–1930s, in good condition with small signs of ageing.
Description from the seller
Up for auction is a magnificent, highly authentic electric miner's safety lamp, featuring the rare and iconic "ogivale" (pointed cage) head configuration. Manufactured by the renowned Compagnie Auxiliaire des Mines in Douai, France, this heavy-duty industrial piece dates back to the 1920s–1940s.
This particular specimen is uniquely fitted with its original, striking ruby-red glass dome. In historical coal mining environments, red indicator domes were specialized gear strictly reserved for firebosses, supervisors, or specific track-signaling applications, making it far scarcer than typical clear-glass utility models.
• Materials: Heavy steel cylindrical battery base with a rich, dark historic patina; upper armature crafted from solid brass and bronze.
• Markings: Features an authentic, original oval brass identification plaque stamped with inventory/miner number "44".
• Condition: Excellent vintage condition. The metallic components showcase wonderful authentic wear and aging without structural degradation. The glass is intact with no cracks. The top handle and hook mechanism are fully functional. (Untested electrically, sold as a historic collectable).
• Dimensions: Approx. 28 cm height (excluding suspension ring).
