Italian Venetian Baroque wall mirror, dated to 1900–1910, carved from wood and gilded, with grotesque masks.
Description from the seller
A fine and spectacular wall mirror in Venetian Baroque style, entirely crafted in hand-carved and gilded wood.
The piece stands out for its rich upper pediment with volutes and acanthus-leaf motifs, enriched along the sides by two splendid and rare grotesque mascarons of Mannerist inspiration, finely carved in wood.
The back preserves the original period back panel made of shaped solid wood boards, protected by a light, period-appropriate patina.
The central mirror features a beautiful and widespread bloom of natural oxidation from age, which attests to its authenticity and lends the piece an inimitable antique charm.
A piece of furniture with great character, perfect for both classical settings and eclectic design spaces.
Period: Early to mid-20th century (approximately 1920–1940) or late 19th century.
Material: Hand-carved wood, gilding, period-silvered mirror.
Condition: Structurally solid and complete. It shows a fascinating patina of time, with slight natural wear to the gilding at exposed points and pronounced oxidation of the mirror (blooming) that enhances its authenticity (please view the details in the macro photographs).
Maximum external dimensions: 74 x 41 cm (Thickness: 5 cm)
Inner glass dimensions: 49 x 25 cm
