Description from the seller
CHAMPAGNE BILLECART • CHAMPAGNE BUCKET • BISTRO CHARM
A champagne bucket with a strong character, whose red plaque “CHAMPAGNE BILLECART” stands out on the silver-colored metal. It evokes the atmosphere of French brasseries, convivial tables and the serving accessories associated with champagne houses.
Its slightly flared body is rhythmically marked by two groups of fine horizontal grooves. Two handles with movable rings, mounted on bulged, riveted fittings, complete its sober and elegant silhouette.
An interesting object for a collection devoted to the world of champagne, or to bring decorative presence to a bar space.
IDENTIFICATION AND PERIOD
The plaque bears the inscription “CHAMPAGNE BILLECART,” attached to the house Billecart-Salmon.
The maker of the bucket is not identified. The body is probably aluminum or an aluminum alloy, with no confirmation of its exact composition.
DIMENSIONS APPROXIMATELY
• Height estimated: about 20 cm.
• Upper diameter estimated: about 19 to 20 cm.
• Width estimated with the handles: about 25 to 26 cm.
Not having been able to take measurements of this bucket, these dimensions are given for guidance, based on documented similar specimens.
CONDITION
The bucket shows clearly visible signs of use: numerous scratches, some long on the back, scuffing, stains and halos on the body, as well as tarnishing of the handles and marks on the upper edge.
The interior has a brownish coloration, drips, and surface deposits or alterations whose exact nature is not determined. The seal has not been tested.
The photographs complement the description and allow appreciation of proportions, construction details and the visible condition of the bucket.
Nevertheless, all these defects contribute to the vintage charm of this lovely bucket.
CONTENTS OF THE SALE
The sale includes only the photographed Billecart champagne bucket. The Taittinger bottle visible in a photograph is shown for illustration and is not included.
