Description from the seller
Harrach – A blown glass vase, carved cameo decoration with gold highlights. Ancient Giuseppe Cappa collection.
Exceptional vase from Harrach's manufacture, belonging to the private collection of Giuseppe Cappa and from a sale of that collection. This vase is the exemplar that is reproduced and photographed on page 218 of his renowned reference work on European artistic glass, L’Art verrier, where it appears as number 394. This bibliographic correspondence constitutes an important element of historical and collecting interest.
The certificate from the auction house confirming the vase’s provenance (“pedigree”) will be attached.
Made in uranium-yellow double glass, blown, it features cameo-engraved decoration with a plant motif. According to the book L’Art verrier, the décor corresponds to a “groseillier” motif. The ornamental details are enriched with gold highlights, which add luminosity and emphasize the contrast between the engraved decoration and the colored glass background.
The combination of double glass, cameo engraving, and gilded ornamentation reflects the technical and decorative sophistication of Central European artistic glass production. Its interest is reinforced by its provenance from Giuseppe Cappa’s collection and by its identification in L’Art verrier, a circumstance that directly links the piece to one of the reference publications for the study of European glass.
A piece of special appeal for collectors of historic glass, Central European manufactures, and items with provenance and documented bibliographic reference.
