Description from the seller
CANON AUTO ZOOM 814 SUPER 8 – 1967
High-end Japanese motion picture camera – Canon Zoom lens 7.5–60 mm f/1.4 – With original case
Magnificent Canon Auto Zoom 814, a Super 8 motion picture camera built by Canon in Japan and introduced in March 1967, belonging to one of the most emblematic generations of high-performance consumer home cameras developed by the Japanese firm during the 1960s.
The Auto Zoom 814 stood out at the time for its excellent build quality and, especially, for incorporating a powerful Canon Zoom lens 7.5–60 mm f/1.4, a bright zoom of about 8 stops, which clearly placed this model above the simpler consumer Super 8 cameras of the era.
Robust construction and carefully finished, it presents Canon’s distinctive late-60s industrial design, combining metal, black surfaces and chrome elements. Both aesthetically and in terms of its specifications, it is today an attractive piece for collectors of cine cameras, photography, and Japanese technological design of the 20th century.
The specimen also retains its original case, a circumstance particularly interesting from a collecting and presentation standpoint of the set.
Condition report
According to its owner, the camera was in perfect working order when it stopped being used about 30 years ago. Since then it has remained stored and has never been used again.
No recent test film or full technical inspection of its mechanisms has been performed, so although it functioned perfectly at the time it was stored, it is currently offered as a collectible piece with no guarantee of current operation.
Visually it presents a very good general condition for its age, with the normal signs of aging and storage.
