Description from the seller
A beautiful, heavy and high-quality handcrafted fire-gilded bronze statue of the four-armed Avalokiteshvara (Chenrezig), the Bodhisattva of Infinite Compassion.
The statue is masterfully executed in the traditional Sino-Tibetan style. The deity is elegantly seated in serene dhyanasana (lotus posture) on a double-layered lotus base. The primary hands are folded at the heart in anjali mudra (gesture of prayer).
The object is in excellent, undamaged historic condition with a brilliant, authentic patina of age. The serene face displays skilled cold-gold painting, and the hair knot (jatamukuta) contains traditional ritual blue pigments. The underside is traditionally hollow and open, allowing the authentic casting marks and the thickness of the bronze alloy to be nicely visible. From a private Dutch collection.
