Prameta Buick 405 metal model from Germany dating to the 1950s, in very good condition, tested and working, with the original opened but damaged box.

AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

PRÄMETA BUICK 405 RED in its rare original box (garage) and with key, Made in Germany produced in the British Zone in 1950.

The operation has been successfully tested: the 3 forward gears, the reverse, the neutral and the automatic direction indicator work properly.

The rare original packaging is shaped like a garage and for this reason children of the era used to tear off the front closure flap while leaving intact the two side panels that simulate the garage doors, so the box is missing, on one side, the front closure flap.

NOTES FOR COLLECTORS

This model, unlike most produced that have the front and rear plate engraved with the number 405, bears the year of production 1950 printed on it (the number 19 is also visible on the box).

Produced from 1949 (starting with the model "Buick 405"), Prämeta (PRÄ-cision META-ll) car models were known for their robustness. This model is the first in the "Fantastic Four" series and was made in three color variants: chrome, green and red.

From 1953 the "Mercedes-Benz 300" (also known as the "Adenauer model") was produced, a year after the "Jaguar XK 120" and finally from 1955 the "Opel Kapitän 555".

These are models with a very complex mechanism made with high-quality, extremely robust gears; the toy has a great heft compared to all others of the same size (weighing almost 300 grams!), so much so that sometimes the company advertised that an adult could stand on a Prämeta model without damaging it.
