Description from the seller

Beautifuloval cast iron enamelled cocotte from Le Creuset, Coquelle model, designed by the famous industrial designer Raymond Loewy in the late 1950s. This iconic piece captivates with its sculptural silhouette, clean lines and decidedly modern aesthetics, hallmarks of post-war design.

Its very pale blue lavender enamel, with delicate nuances, gives it rare elegance. The generous shape of the vessel, the handles integrated into the body, and the lid with an architectural profile all testify to the care devoted to its design.

A historic model signed Raymond Loewy

Raymond Loewy (1893-1986), Franco-American industrial designer, is considered one of the pioneers of modern design. He profoundly shaped everyday objects by combining functionality, ergonomics and elegance. His collaboration with Le Creuset gave birth to the Coquelle, which became a worldwide reference in the early 1950s, sought after by fans of modern and vintage design and by collectors.

A rare set with its original steam basket

This cocotte comes with its 3.5-liter Le Creuset vegetable basket, marked “Le Creuset – Made in France.” This perforated metal accessory was intended for steam cooking of vegetables and was originally designed specifically for this model, here in a new condition. Its presence constitutes a real asset for this vintage set, especially interesting for a collector wishing to reunite the vessel and its period accessory.

Condition

The set shows a remarkable condition for a model of its age. The exterior enamel retains a handsome glossy appearance, while the inner tub shows only a few superficial signs of use, mainly at the bottom. Light marks and small enamel chips are also visible on certain edges and borders, in accordance with the photographs.

The lid is present and its black ergonomic knob complements harmoniously the overall line of the piece. The set remains very visually appealing and stands as a remarkable testament to Le Creuset’s know-how and the history of industrial design.
