Specimen Rhinobatos hakelensis, commonly known as the violin or guitar fish, from the Cenomanian Hakel deposit in Lebanon, Upper Cretaceous about 96 million years old; natural condition, conserved with Paraloid B-72, authentic/original, weight 5838 g and dimensions 540 × 142 × 30 mm.
Description from the seller
The Rhinobatos known as the violin fish or guitar fish derives from the shape of the body, which resembles the two musical instruments. Unlike other rays, the front part of the body is expanded, but not enough to form a true disk, and the body as a whole remains tapered. This cartilaginous ray of the order Rajiformes and the family Rhinobatidae is of museum quality both in size and in the exceptional fossilization of cartilage, which is very rare for this type of ray. This beautiful specimen comes from the famous Cenomanian deposits of Hakel-Lebanon, one of the most important fossiliferous sites in the world, dating to the Late Cretaceous, about 96 million years ago. It has undergone conservation treatment with Paraloid B-72 to protect it from pollution as is used for museums. Ideal for collectors, museums, or educational purposes, and it is ready for display. Shipping is via trackable express courier and is well packed.
