Description from the seller
Neoclassical Marble Table with Winged Alate Sphinx Support Finely Carved
Important neoclassical table, made of French red marble with a wide rectangular Carrara marble top, characterized by a monumental structure and rich sculptural workmanship. The top features a surface with distinctive natural veining, adorned along the entire perimeter with an elegant carved relief frame with foliate motifs. The structure rests on two imposing red marble supports, finely carved in the shape of winged sphinxes with feminine faces, accurately worked anatomical details and wide wings decorated. The side surfaces of the pedestals are enriched with elaborate bas-relief ornamental motifs, with vegetal elements, figures and volutes, while the solid rectangular bases confer stability and impressiveness to the whole. The white veins of the red marble further enhance the depth of the carvings and the particular beauty of the sculptures. The important proportions, the refinement of the details and the color contrast between the light top and the red supports make this table a striking element with dramatic presence. A piece with notable decorative charm, ideal for prestigious environments, salons, monumental entrances, historic villas, or elegant interior and exterior spaces.
