Rare original historical-legal manuscript dossier (1853–1866) conservatively preserved with its original contemporaneous binding and hemp cord, containing 52 handwritten sheets and a hand-drawn, detailed map by Architect Giuseppe Bellotti dated 31 August 1864.
Description from the seller
Rare and impressive original handwritten historical-legal dossier (1853-1866), entirely preserved in its original filing and period binding bound with hemp cord.
The document details over a decade of legal and land disputes over the regulation of boundaries and the usurpation of lands in Salerno (localities "Gilette e Gilettine" and "Sicaritolo") between the defunct Monastery of San Giorgio in Salerno (later Ecclesiastical Treasury / National Heritage) and the Vernieri owning family.
STRENGTH OF THE LOT:
Contains as original attached the HAND-DRAWN TOPOGRAPHIC MAP drawn by the Judicial Architect Giuseppe Bellotti dated August 31, 1864, with detailed legend, boundary indications, and autograph signatures.
CONTENT AND HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE:
- Documents the historical-legal transition from the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies to the Kingdom of Italy (1861) and the application of anti-ecclesiastical property laws.
- Contains judgments of the Circondary Court of Salerno and the Court of Appeals of Naples.
- Rich in era watermarks visible through the paper (including the watermark dated "1853" and decorated "LAVIGNE"), fiscal stamps of the Kingdom of Italy (L. 1.20 with the emblem of Vittorio Emanuele II), wet seals of the chancery, and autograph signatures of experts, magistrates and lawyers (Bellotti, Siniscalchi, De Simone, Contursi, Squeglia).
Details and dimensions:
- Number of sheets/pages: 52 manuscript sheets (about 100 pages)
- Folder dimensions: about 32 x 23 cm
- Map dimensions: about 42 x 31 cm
- Condition: Very good for an archival document over 160 years old. Sturdy paper, ink clearly legible, intact period binding, slight foxing and marginal signs of time attesting to its genuineness.
