Steven Thackston: Flowers in a Thorn Tree – Bologna, Damiani 2021

Album oblong 8vo, 25 x 22 cm., publisher’s cloth, illustrated dust jacket, 159 pages, condition: as new.

A well-known photobook by the artist Steven Thackston, published by the renowned Bologna-based art publisher Damiani Editore.
This volume documents a profound and realistic journey into wildlife conservation in northern Kenya.
The Atlanta-based photographer spent several years in the field, living in close quarters with ranger units from the Northern Rangelands Trust (NRT) — also known as "Warriors for Peace and Wildlife."
Through 109 color photographs, Thackston captures the rangers' daily lives aboard patrol vehicles, their efforts to combat poaching, missions to rescue injured animals, and the delicate work of mediation and peacekeeping among local pastoralist communities.
The book follows an organic, non-linear structure—reminiscent of an "on-the-road" travelogue—inviting the viewer to explore the harsh reality of the savanna through the eyes of those who protect it every single day.
The book has already become rare and highly sought-after.
