Description from the seller

Bookcase/credenza by Arne Vodder, made from rosewood by Sibast, Denmark, 1960

A beautiful bookcase designed by Arne Vodder and manufactured by Sibast Møbler, Denmark, in 1960. These elegant cabinets are made of rosewood with a rich grain and feature distinctive roller doors with graceful handles, a hallmark of Vodder's refined design style. Each bookcase offers adjustable shelves in the upper section, creating flexible display and storage possibilities, while the lower compartments provide discreet, enclosed storage space.

The attention to detail and the craftsmanship are clearly visible in the seamless integration of materials and the precise joints. Both cabinets are stamped with the original Sibast factory label and are in very good condition. A highly sought-after and functional wall unit, ideal for a stylish modern interior or design collection.

A fantastic addition to any modern home, office, or interior.

About the designer:

Arne Vodder was born in 1926 in Denmark (now exactly 100 years ago!). He trained as a cabinetmaker and architect and studied with Finn Juhl at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen, where he graduated in 1947. After his studies, he worked as a designer at Hindsgaul in Copenhagen, where he focused primarily on office interiors. In 1950, Vodder, together with architect Anton Borg, established his own architecture and design studio. Over the years the studio moved to several locations in Copenhagen before settling in the suburb of Holte, north of the city. Together they designed furniture and a number of affordable homes. Vodder and Borg collaborated until the 1970s.

Vodder is best known for his furniture designs, which were typically simple and made from natural materials such as rosewood and teak, often inspired by natural forms and sometimes accented with colorful panels. During his career Vodder worked with several renowned brands and designed cabinets, tables, chairs, and more for furniture makers such as Fritz Hansen, France & Søn, Nielaus, Sibast, Kircodan (for which he designed garden furniture), and also for the department store Havemann’s Magasin A/S (for which he designed the interior), to name just a few.

Although Vodder is less well known today than some of his contemporaries, his work was highly valued during his lifetime. Between the 1950s and 1970s Vodder's furniture designs were even used by President Jimmy Carter in the White House and President Anwar Sadat in Cairo, and they were also found in the UN office in Geneva, as well as in a number of hotels, banks, and embassies worldwide. His work was frequently exhibited, both individually and in group exhibitions with artists such as Verner Panton and Nanna Ditzel.

Vodder passed away in 2009.
