Two French silver-plated metal items comprising a round cufflink box signed Christian Dior (Paris) with a red velvet interior and an engraved base, and a neo-rococo floral-decorated powder compact with a beveled mercury mirror, octagonal form, and beige fabric-edged powder sieve.
Description from the seller
Set of two iconic silvered metal objects reflecting French good taste.
- Elegant and authentic collectible round box signed Christian Dior (Paris), ideal for storing jewelry or cufflinks.
The removable lid features in its center an original grasping handle shaped like two Roman-style medallions (emperor profile and centaur) linked by a small chain, mimicking a pair of cufflinks.
Material: silvered metal
Interior: red velvet-lined to protect jewelry from scratches
Signature engraved under the base "Christian Dior" accompanied by the silvering hallmark
Era: 1970-1980
Classic/Roman Antiquity style
In very good vintage condition overall. Shows light micro-scratches from normal use on the silvered metal, which attest to its age but do not affect the piece’s aesthetics. The velvet interior is clean and in very good condition.
- Magnificent and charming powder compact for a dresser or handbag from the 1940s-1950s, in silver plate, fairly heavy for its size.
The lid displays superb repoussé engraving featuring scrolling tendrils, foliate volutes, and a central bouquet of flowers, in a neo-Rococo floral style. This dense, romantic decoration type massively developed after World War II, marking a break with the geometric rigidity of pure Art Deco of the 1930s.
Although the overall structure retains octagonal-cut angles, the richness of ornamentation confirms the 1950s period.
The powder compact is fitted with a mercury-backed mirror under the lid, a sifter with a fabric-bezel border to filter loose powder, and its original swan-down puff. A few micro-scratches on the reverse side.
Carefully packaged and shipped quickly.
