Sigismund III Vasa ruled the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth during a period of dynastic ambition, warfare and expanding international trade. His reign saw conflicts with Sweden, Muscovy and the Ottoman Empire, while the Commonwealth remained one of Europe’s largest states. The półtorak, worth 1½ groschen and linked to the thaler system, reflects the increasingly interconnected monetary economy of early 17th-century Central Europe.
