General map of the Lombardy–Venetia Kingdom, an intaglio copperplate aquatint produced for the Imperial Royal Geographical Institute in Milan in 1838, reduced to 1:288,000 from the 1833 86‑sheet topographic map, in four large fabric-backed sheets that form the full northern Italy wall map (approximately 95 × 152 cm).

AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

The map is in good condition. The back is blank. A rare historical-cartographic relic of the Italian Risorgimento: the "Carta Generale del Regno Lombardo-Veneto" (Generalkarte des Lombardisch-Venetianischen Königreiches), copper-engraved in Milan in 1838 on behalf of the I.R. Geografico Militare Institute of the Imperial Royal General Staff of the Austrian Empire. The work represents the famous and highly detailed reduced-scale version (1:288,000) derived from the monumental larger 86-sheet topographic map of 1833. It was commissioned and executed exclusively for strategic, logistical, and mobility purposes for the senior officers of the Imperial Austrian Army during the Italian Campaigns and the Wars of Independence. The lot consists of 4 large cloth-backed foldable sections (which when joined form the entire large wall map of Northern Italy and the Adriatic coast). Approximately 95 x 152 cm, composed of four independent sections. It will be shipped with Italian Post.
