Antique French three-light candelabrum in the Rococo Luigi XV style, with gilded bronze elements bearing the crowned C assay mark dating to 1745–1749; overall height 26 cm, width 33 cm, weight 1,191 g.
Description from the seller
Antique French three-flame candelabrum in Louis XV Rococo style, with gilded bronze elements stamped C couronné (C coroné), attributable to the period 1745–1749.
The candelabrum features an elaborate gilded bronze base, characterized by asymmetric scrolls, vegetal motifs and perforated decorations typical of mid-18th-century French Rococo taste.
From the base rises a naturalistic composition of branches and leaves in patinated metal, supporting three gilded bronze candlesticks, finely worked with floral and vegetal decorations.
Significantly, the presence of the original stamp C coroné (C couronné) on the gilded elements, including the base and the candlesticks, is noteworthy. It is a French tax mark used between 1745 and 1749, during the reign of Louis XV, on objects containing copper, including gilded bronzes.
The presence of these marks constitutes an important historical element and dating aid for the punched components.
Condition report
The object is presented in the condition visible in the photographs, with patina, oxidations and signs of age.
The composition is incomplete compared with the probable original configuration. The structure may have been enriched with porcelain decorative elements, including central figures and flowers applied to the branches, now missing.
At the center of the base there are still residues of hardened resinous material, presumably used as an adhesive for fixing the decorative elements.
The structure retains the three candlesticks, the gilded base and the metallic branching.
