Single black ferro battuto iron bed dating to 1910–1920 in Art Nouveau style with Viennese Secession influences, made by Fornaci San Lorenzo in Tuscany, Italy, with no bed base.
Description from the seller
Incredible iron bed (single) dating from the very early years of the 1900s, in full Art Nouveau style, entirely crafted by local artisans and decorators. We are in the first two decades of the 20th century, Tuscany, particularly in the Mugello area (Florence). This wonderful piece was part of a Medici villa until the late 1960s.
Of strong Liberty inspiration, it features elegant floral and geometric paintings, such as branches, leaves and motifs recalling clusters of fruit and cherries, typical of the period's iconography. Enriched not merely by mother-of-pearl inserts that make up the flower medallions, and by shimmering stones (also known as abalone decorations), which lend luminosity and three-dimensionality to the dark surface. All framed by golden filigrees and bronze accents set against the predominant black.
From research and information received, although direct attribution is complex, the historical and indigenous stylistic link surely points to the excellence of the area: the Galileo Chini workshop in Borgo San Lorenzo (Fornaci San Lorenzo), i.e., the leading exponent of Italian Liberty. The strict black geometric grid combined with avant-garde floral grafismos (Viennese Secession) show a very strong affinity with his preparatory cartoons, his frescoes and the famous ceramics. The integration of precious and color-changing materials ultimately reflects his philosophy of Decorative Arts of the era, of which Chini was a pioneer in Italy.
