ANCIENT TOOLS - FOLK ART

Set of 2 superb wheel gauges/rollers or wheelwright calipers

This tool was used to measure the circumference of wooden wheels in order to adjust the iron banding. The wheelwright rolled the disk around the rim to transfer the exact measurement onto the metal band to be shaped.

- The first is forged iron. The metal disk is notched or marked along its edge. A long forged iron handle is fixed to the center by a rivet. The tool also has a suspension hole at the end of the handle.
  Length = 31 cm, disk diameter = 15 cm.

- The second is wood and metal and was used in the 19th century
  Length = 43 cm, disk diameter = 18 cm.

Total weight of the tools = 1.025 kg

Cet outil servait à mesurer la circonférence des roues en bois pour ajuster le bandage en fer. Le charron faisait rouler le disque autour de la jante pour reporter la mesure exacte sur la bande métallique à façonner.

- Le premier est en fer forgé. Le disque métallique est cranté ou marqué sur le pourtour. Un long manche en
  fer forgé est fixé au centre par un rivet. L'outil comporte également un trou de suspension à l'extrémité du 
  manche.
  Longueur = 31 cm, diamètre du disque = 15 cm.

- Le second est en bois et métal et était utilisé au 19ème siècle
  Longueur = 43 cm, diamètre du disque = 18 cm.
