AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

This is a beautiful photograph by Emilio Sommariva, the famous painter/photographer active in Milan in the early 1900s. Native of Lodi (Lodi, December 8, 1883 – Milan, September 12, 1956), he achieved notable success in both painting (he took part in the Brera Biennale of 1925, the International Art Exhibition of Venice in 1926, and, in the following decade, at the Permanente exhibitions in Milan) and photography (his reputation was sealed by the awards obtained in 1911 at the International Exhibition of Artistic and Scientific Photography in Rome (gold medal from the Festival Committee) and at the International Photography Exhibition and Competition in Turin (diploma of honor). In 1922 he established himself on the international scene by winning the first prize at the International Exhibition of Professional Artistic Photography in London).

This beautiful image, dating to around the 1920s, depicts a view of Lomellina, with carts, and on the back, in addition to the author’s stamp, there is a pencil inscription that reads "carts in Lomellina".

Printed on heavy cardstock, perhaps it was produced by a charcoal process.

Excellent overall condition, some minor staining on the front and back, dimensions 26.7 x 19.6 cm.
