Isola Bella is an albumen photograph by Giovanni Crupi from 1890, measuring 19 × 24.6 cm, in good condition, bearing a stamp signature and sold by Proprietario o rivenditore.
Description from the seller
This is an interesting photograph in albumen by the well-known Sicilian photographer Giovanni Crupi (1861-1925), who operated mostly in Taormina. This beautiful image was taken in the surroundings of Taormina itself, and it depicts Isola Bella, with a truly evocative and captivating viewpoint. It is not one of the “common” “commercial” photographs by Giovanni Crupi, which at the time were sold to tourists, with the usual dark strip at the bottom bearing the place names and so on; this one belongs to the more “personal” photographs, sometimes unique and not multi-copy reproductions, decidedly harder to find on the market. Giovanni Crupi was also a very good friend of Wilhelm von Gloeden, for whom he was also the distributor for Sicily for a long period. This photograph is duly stamped on the back by Giovanni Crupi; it would be excellent if there weren’t some yellowing spots here and there on the print (obviously the price takes this into account…). Dimensions: 24.6x19 cm.
