H.F.P. Macau porcelain decorative vase, approximately 40 cm high, with polychrome craquelé and gilding featuring a bird and flowers, in a Satsuma revival/orientalist style and produced in Macau for export in the second half of the 20th century, in excellent condition.
Description from the seller
Large decorative vase by H.F.P. Macau, multicolored crackle glaze porcelain with bird and flowers, Satsuma style, 20th century – height approx. 40 cm
Description
Elegant and scenographic large porcelain vase marked H.F.P. Macau, produced for the international market and particularly valued for its rich decoration and strong decorative presence.
The vase, of substantial size – height about 40 cm – features a refined ivory-colored surface characterized by a dense decorative crackle, an element that gives the porcelain a pleasant antique appearance and deliberately recalls the famous Oriental collectible ceramics.
The entire surface is enriched by a rich naturalistic composition with a bird among flowers, chrysanthemums, branches and foliage, executed in a sophisticated palette of brick red, pale pink, blue-gray, brown and black, with numerous gold profiles and details.
Particularly decorative is the upper band, characterized by a dark background finely adorned with gold floral motifs, also repeated at the base. The lip edge and the lower moldings are further emphasized by gilding, creating an elegant contrast with the light crackled background.
The decorative setting sits within the Satsuma revival / Orientalist taste, highly sought after in Western mid-20th-century interiors: a reinterpretation of East Asian ceramic tradition created for export, in which Macau played an important commercial and productive role.
The H.F.P. MACAU mark, present at the base, identifies the production. H.F.P. is known on the vintage market for decorative porcelain items destined for export, with quality that can vary considerably: this specimen stands out for its considerable size, the complexity of decoration, the abundant use of gilding and the pleasant crackle spread across the entire surface.
A striking object, particularly suitable as a centerpiece in a classical, eclectic, chinoiserie, Hollywood Regency, or contemporary interior, where it can also be valued as a standalone piece on a console, sideboard, or pedestal.
