Description from the seller
MISSAL ROMANUM — DESCLÉE — Rome, Tournai, Paris, 1926
Impressive Roman missal for the Holy Mass, published in 1926 by the famous Desclée publishing house from Tournai, a major Catholic publisher specializing in liturgical books and Gregorian chant. The missal is from just after the liturgical reforms introduced from 1911 by Pope Pius X.
Magnificent edition, printed in black and red, with large decorative initials and numerous illustrations inspired by medieval woodcuts. Of particular note are the pages of the Canon of the Mass, the Dominica Resurrectionis, and the Commune Sanctorum.
The frontispiece shows the Missale Romanum according to the liturgical tradition of St. Pius V, later revised under Clement VIII, Urban VIII and Leo XIII.
At the end the book also contains the commune sanctorum, an appendix and the missale proprio for the Diocese of Mechelen. This Missale proprio is an addition from 1928 by the publisher Dessain.
The missal is bound in red leather, with raised bands and a gilded title on the spine. The book boards have gold-stamped crosses. Contains liturgical bookmarks and shows natural signs of use and aging.
