Description from the seller

Lesser harrier (Circus pygargus)

We are pleased to present an elegant taxidermied specimen of the Lesser Harrier (Circus pygargus), one of the most graceful and slender diurnal raptors of the Palearctic avifauna.

The bird is mounted in a superb upright sentinel pose, with a streamlined body that fully showcases the aerodynamic proportions typical of the genus Circus. The ventral plumage features a refined cream/ochre base, overlaid with dense, regular brownish-red longitudinal striations. The wing coverts and the dorsal mantle display warm tones of brownish chestnut, with clearly defined margins and a dense, careful texture. The head bears the characteristic slightly whetted facial disk, typical of harriers, converging toward a dark, hooked beak with a prominently highlighted yellow cere. The gaze is vivid and magnetic, enhanced by dark glass eyes of high anatomical fidelity. The legs, long and slender in bright yellow, end in sharp, curved black claws that grip the perch firmly. The long tail extends downward, showing the juvenile/female color patterns and barring.

The specimen rests on a synthetic sculpted base consisting of a gnarled, sinuously shaped branch, finished with rich simulated vegetation of yellow-gold moss and lichens. The curved stance of the support gracefully balances the raptor’s verticality. The underside of the base is clad in red felt, designed to protect the resting surfaces from scratches and wear.

The piece is in excellent condition. The care in aligning the primary and tail feathers, together with the taxidermic precision in muscular and postural rendering, testify to a high-level artisanal craft.

A ornithological piece of notable scientific and aesthetic value, perfect for enriching excellent taxidermy collections, natural history cabinets (Wunderkammer), or as a sober and sophisticated decorative element for classic interiors, study rooms, and country residences.

The buyer is responsible for verifying the import authorization for an object, as well as the duties and taxes to be paid at the time of import.
