AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

The type of dish with the characteristic wavy/ruffled edge, the iconic peacock decor and the hand-painted monogram mark "S" on the back (surrounded by blue leaf/fruit motifs and stippled clusters) fits perfectly with Delft faïence production from the third quarter of the 18th century. The burn points on the underside show the authentic production method in the kiln.

Description
A classic and highly decorative antique Delft blue plate.
The central focal point shows the traditional depiction of a proud peacock with its tail fanned, standing on a stylized rock motif amid finely worked floral motifs and stippling.
The broad, breccia-like edge is richly decorated with cartouches, garlands and stylized flower vases.
The plate has a beautiful wavy, ruffled edge (scalloped edge) that catches the light nicely. The back is also traditionally decorated and equipped with a hand-painted painter’s or factory mark.

Condition
In authentic antique condition with clear signs of aging, appropriate for an object of use of more than 250 years old.
On the left front/rim there is a larger glaze crack / rim damage (visible circled in red in the detail photo), whereby the underlying ocher-colored earthenware shard is exposed.
Along the entire scalloped outer rim there is the age-appropriate edge wear (fritting) and minimal glaze chips. There are no running hairlines or large cracks detected; the plate sounds clear to the touch.
