Description from the seller
Fraraccio San Fratello "Knife of Lovers" – Resin – Early 2000s
Description
Splendid and authentic San Fratello Fraraccio, made in the early 2000s according to the Sicilian artisanal tradition. This model represents one of the most fascinating and symbolic regional knives in Italy and is known as the famous "Knife of Lovers".
Originating from the mountain village of San Fratello, in the province of Messina, the Sanfratellano knife has its roots in Sicilian pastoral culture. Its olive-leaf shaped blade and the refined glossy horn-imitating resin handle make it an iconic object of the island’s traditional cutlery.
Particularly sought after is its deep symbolic meaning. In the popular tradition of central-southern Italy, the knife of love was given as a betrothal pledge, representing fidelity, protection, and a bond intended to last over time.
This specimen features on the polished bolster a refined engraving on both sides: on one side a couple of lovers kissing, on the other a charming young lady in costume, decorative elements that recall the ancient romantic tradition tied to this model.
The knife is made with a glossy resin horn-imitating handle, full stainless steel construction, and blade in INOX 420 steel, a material prized for its corrosion resistance and easy maintenance.
A magnificent collectible piece that encapsulates history, tradition, and Italian artisan craftsmanship.
