Description from the seller
Roman Bronze Appliqué with Curved Stem and Foliate Terminal - 1st to 3rd Century AD
A Roman bronze appliqué formed with an elongated curved stem rising from a stepped lower section and terminating in a flared, leaf-like ornament. The upper terminal is articulated by a prominent central ridge and a series of oblique grooves, giving its surface a stylised vegetal appearance. Its widening outline contrasts with the narrower, smoothly curving stem below.
The lower section incorporates pronounced transverse mouldings and a short projecting peg. Seen from the side, the object has a distinctly curved profile, showing that it was conceived as a projecting attachment rather than a flat decorative plaque. Its precise original support cannot be established from the surviving form alone.
The bronze has a predominantly dark brown to black surface, with scattered greenish areas and pale earthen deposits concentrated within the grooves and around the mouldings. Surface abrasion, pitting and irregularities are visible along the exposed edges and terminal. Despite this wear, the principal decorative features remain distinguishable, particularly the ribbed foliate tip and the stepped base.

Dimensions: 4.5 cm height
Weight: 29.90 gr
