Description from the seller
Vintage ship's clock – Radio Silence Clock
A special vintage ship's clock from around the 1980s, originally used aboard cargo ships and supertankers as a slave clock. These clocks were controlled from a central master clock and formed part of the timekeeping system on board.
This particular piece is a so-called radio-silence clock. The sectors on the dial indicate the periods during which ships had to maintain radio silence, so distress calls such as the international SOS signal could be heard more clearly on the international maritime distress frequency of 500 kHz.
The clock is finished in glass, metal and enamel and has a distinctive maritime appearance.
Dimensions:
- Length: 21 cm
- Width: 21 cm
- Height: 8 cm
The original movement has been replaced by a modern quartz movement, running on one AA battery. The clock is therefore immediately functional and can be used as a decorative object.
A special item for lovers of maritime memorabilia, ship interiors and vintage industrial design.
The photos are example photos; the actual clock may differ slightly.
The clock is carefully and attentively packaged and shipped with Track & Trace.
