Napoleon III era column in ebonised wood with glazed floral ceramic accents, dating to circa 1850–1900.
Description from the seller
Napoleon III column in ebonized wood, decorated with exquisite glazed and floral ceramic dating from the 19th century, of French manufacture.
The turned shaft in sections enhances the elongated form and features cylindrical pieces of glazed, floral ceramic, attributable to the Lunéville maiolica manufactory, finely decorated with floral motifs in vivid colors: violet, yellow, purple, and more delicate decorations such as pink and cream white. In the center, a delicate yellow and pink flower interrupts the severity of the surrounding ebonized wood, a stylistic device much loved.
The floral charm of this part poetically contrasts with the column’s sobriety, giving it great brilliance.
The combination of materials chosen and the color pairing make this column one of the objects where the era’s style and interior design were clearly characterized by romantic originality.
Dimensions:
Height: 96 cm
Capitals width: 26 cm
Lower capital thickness: 8 cm
Circumference at the widest point: 50 cm
Code: 182
NB. As these are antique objects, there may be cracks, stains, small missing parts, signs of age, etc. Please examine the photos carefully.
