Description from the seller
19th-century antique fan – Likely Toilette of Venus – Gold rococo decorations – Semicircular display case
Elegant antique fan, attributable to the second half of the 19th century, characterized by rich rococo-style decoration and a refined central figurative composition.
The scene probably depicts the mythological theme of the Toilette of Venus (La Toilette de Vénus), with a female figure as the central protagonist surrounded by other figures and possible amorini, in an setting enriched by draperies, vegetation and architectural elements.
The page, apparently made of fabric, features elaborate gilded decorations, floral motifs, scrolls and ornamental cartouches. The light-coloured sticks are finely worked and pierced, with contrasting decorative details.
The fan is preserved open inside a scenographic semicircular display case with a gilded frame, protective glass and dark green background.
