Large and capacious writing desk coffer in solid wood with mahogany featherwood veneers, dating to 1850–1900, 44.5 × 25 × 18 cm, with brass escutcheon and functional key, in used but good condition, made in Italy.
Description from the seller
Grand writing desk and document case in mahogany veneer – 19th century
Magnificent nineteenth-century case of generous size and notable storage capacity, made of solid wood with splendid surfaces in mahogany veneer, characterized by deep and sinuous grain and rich brown and reddish tones.
An elegant example of 19th-century cabinetmaking, distinguished by clean lines, harmonious proportions, and the extraordinary natural beauty of the wood, further enhanced by polish.
Particularly interesting for its dimensions, a full 44.5 cm in length, this case stands out from ordinary jewelry boxes for its ample capacity and rational organization of the interior spaces.
The interior features a practical removable tray divided into four compartments, ideal for organizing correspondence, letters, small documents, desk accessories, personal items and valuables. By removing the tray, access is gained to an additional lower compartment, wide and deep, which greatly increases its versatility.
The interiors are elegantly lined with intense red felt, in refined contrast with the warm tones of the mahogany.
On the front there is a brass shield with a lock, complete with a present and fully functioning key, allowing discreet storage of the contents.
The outer bottom is protected by black felt.
Condition: the case is in good overall condition, with polished surfaces and a pleasant patina. There are natural signs of age and slight warping of the wood, consistent with the object's antiquity. The lock remains functional.
Thanks to its substantial dimensions and remarkable capacity, it represents an ideal complement for a professional study, a private library, or a prestigious desk. Perfect as an elegant container for documents, correspondence and desk accessories, it can also be used as a large jewelry box or refined collectible case.
An object that combines historical charm, visual impact and authentic functionality, capable of enhancing both a classic environment and a contemporary space with refined taste.
Dimensions: 44.5 × 25 × 18 cm.
The photographs are an integral part of the description.
Shipping with professional, careful packaging, carried out according to the handling and protection procedures for artworks, thanks to our specialized Art Logistics certification.
