AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Bronze ring with grooved shoulders – 3rd–7th century AD
A bronze ring with an oval bezel and shoulders decorated by a succession of transverse grooves, creating a ribbed effect. The upper face is dark and worn, with little definition of any possible motif. Pale deposits within the grooves emphasise the lines of the hoop and shoulders. The outline has irregularities and the projecting areas show abrasion. The repeated transverse lines add a rhythmic texture to the shoulders and distinguish the ring from examples with entirely plain sides. Their relief is most apparent where pale material remains within the recesses. The head offers a comparatively quiet central field, contrasting with the more articulated band beside it. Wear has softened some ridges and the edge of the bezel, but the relationship between the oval face and the grooved shoulders remains visible.
Material: Bronze
Dimensions: 1.9 x 2.1 cm
Weight: 2.75 gr
Provenance: Acquired in Germany from an auction house, previously from a personal collection.
We guarantee the authenticity of the pieces, backed by the combined experience of our experts spanning more than 40 years.
