AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Bronze ring with curvilinear decoration – 10th–15th century AD
A bronze ring with broad shoulders and an integrated head, decorated with curved lines extending over the upper surface and sides. The incisions form scrolls or undulating patterns, without a securely identifiable figurative interpretation. Dark patina contrasts with pale green deposits within the grooves, making the design more visible. The hoop narrows towards its lower section and shows edge wear. The design is not confined to a small central disc: the engraved treatment spreads across the upper mass and onto the shoulders. This gives the decoration a continuous appearance when the ring is turned from front to side. The pale material within the lines makes portions of the pattern stand out against the darker metal. Some strokes remain clearer than others, and the worn surface does not justify reconstructing a complete repeated motif beyond what is visible.
Material: Bronze
Dimensions: 2 x 1.9 cm
Weight: 4.78 gr
Provenance: Acquired in Germany from an auction house, previously from a personal collection.
We guarantee the authenticity of the pieces, backed by the combined experience of our experts spanning more than 40 years.
