Origin: Italy. Model: Limited edition (2/25) Artistic Tapestry “Anubi – God of Mummification and the Afterlife”; decorative tapestry on regenerated leather, 72 cm high by 47.5 cm wide, in like new condition.
Description from the seller
Decorative tapestry mounted on a backing of regenerated leather, with high-definition artistic printing inspired by the spirituality of ancient Egypt, funerary cult, and the symbolism connected to protecting the dead and the passage to the afterlife.
The composition presents an intense portrait of Anubis, one of the most famous and immediately recognizable deities of the Egyptian pantheon, depicted with a human body and canine head, according to the iconography traditionally associated with the god. The figure dominates the scene with great visual impact, conveying solemnity, authority, and a deep sense of mystery.
Anubis was closely linked to mummification, funerary rituals, the protection of necropolises, and the safeguarding of the deceased on the journey to the afterlife. In Egyptian religion he played a fundamental role in the preparation and safeguarding of the body, as well as being associated with the delicate phase of the soul’s judgment.
In this artistic interpretation, Anubis appears in a proud and monumental pose, with a gaze turned to the side and a powerful build that emphasizes its protective character. The dark, elongated face, large erect ears, and vigilant stance immediately recall the deity’s iconography, giving the composition a strong dramatic presence.
The figure wears an elaborate ceremonial headdress, flanked by bands decorated with hieroglyphic motifs, and a wide, richly worked collar. At the center of the chest is a complex ornament with a winged scarab and an ankh, symbols closely tied to life, regeneration, and the continuity of existence.
Even the belt and arm ornaments feature meticulous graphic work, with motifs inspired by Egyptian art and its sacred symbolism. The draped garment at the bottom completes the figure, creating a balance between physical grandeur and ceremonial refinement.
Anubis also wields a long ritual staff, richly decorated and topped with a stylized animal head, an element that further enhances the sacred and authoritative character of the portrayal. The staff adds verticality to the scene and strengthens the image of the god as guardian and guide.
The background broadens the narrative through numerous references to ancient Egypt. On the left, walls covered with hieroglyphs and representations of Anubis appear, while on the right monumental architectures, temple elements, and a smoking brazier emerge.
A small statue of Anubis is also visible, another nod to the funerary and ritual dimension associated with the deity. The overall setting creates a solemn and evocative atmosphere, suspended between temple, necropolis, and ceremonial space.
The work stands out for its refined engraving-style on paper, constructed from a dense interweaving of lines, hatching, and chiaroscuro. The predominant sepia tone recalls ancient illustrated tablets, antique engravings, and archaeological publications of the era, giving the image a classic, austere, and timeless character.
The print quality accurately enhances the god’s face, the musculature, the complexity of the collar, the ritual decorations, and the numerous background elements. The result is a work of strong visual impact, capable of immediately drawing the eye while also offering a great amount of details to observe more closely.
In the bottom right there is also a seal in intense red wax, a distinctive detail that creates a refined chromatic contrast with the sepia tones of the composition and epitomizes concepts of authenticity, custody, and tradition.
Thought for studies, libraries, living rooms, spaces of representation, private collections, or spaces dedicated to art, history, and mythology, this tapestry marries the allure of ancient Egypt, funerary suggestion, and decorative elegance into a composition of great presence.
