Description from the seller
Bronze spearhead with elongated blade from the western Middle East – 1st millennium BC
A bronze spearhead attributed to the western Middle East, with a narrow elongated blade converging towards a pointed tip. A longitudinal rib follows the centre, while the shoulders narrow into a tang intended for mounting on a shaft. The dark green patina carries pale deposits concentrated in some areas, together with pitting and edge wear. Different views reveal the reinforced section of the blade and the transition into the attachment area. The blade's elongated proportions distinguish it from the shorter foliaceous example in the group. Its taper is sustained along much of the length, with the central rib remaining a clear structural feature in the different views. Pale encrustations interrupt the darker green surface, particularly around the broader lower blade. The tang is narrower and simpler than the head above it. The surviving metal is described without assuming an intact original cutting edge or reconstructing the missing shaft and its attachment materials.
Material: Bronze
Dimensions: 7.6 cm length
Weight: 10 g
Provenance: Acquired in Germany from an auction house, previously from a personal collection.
We guarantee the authenticity of the pieces, backed by the combined experience of our experts spanning more than 40 years.
