Description from the seller
Bronze ring with cruciform geometric disc – 10th–15th century AD
A bronze ring with a raised circular disc decorated by straight lines dividing the field into sectors and creating a cruciform geometric composition. A rim defines the face, while small thickenings mark the junctions with the shoulders. The simple band hoop retains an uneven surface. Brown patina contrasts with the paler engraved grooves; abrasion and wear are visible on projections. The incisions divide the rounded field into angular compartments, each contributing to the overall balance of the design. The outer rim frames the composition and remains visible around much of the face. In profile, the disc is distinct from the narrower band beneath it, while the small shoulder thickenings emphasise the points of support. Different depths and tones within the grooves affect the clarity of the pattern. The visible arrangement is retained as geometric ornament without assigning an unverified devotional or heraldic meaning.
Material: Bronze
Dimensions: 2.6 x 2.1 cm
Weight: 9.19 gr
Provenance: Aduired in Germany from an auction House, previously from a personal collection.
