Description from the seller

Elegant French Art Nouveau Centerpiece – Belle Époque, circa 1900–1910

A magnificent and highly decorative antique table centerpiece, combining an elegantly sculpted silver-plated metal base with beautifully patterned clear pressed glass elements. Dating from the early 20th century, this refined piece reflects the artistic elegance and sophisticated dining culture of the French Belle Époque.

Design and craftsmanship
The beautifully modelled silver plated metal base features flowing organic lines, finely detailed foliage and sculptural leaves, characteristic of the Art Nouveau movement, which drew much of its inspiration from nature.

The elaborate floral decoration rises gracefully from the shaped base, supporting a generously proportioned circular glass serving dish.

The transparent pressed glass is richly decorated with geometric diamond patterns, radiating panels and delicate beaded detailing, beautifully capturing and reflecting the light. Both glass elements feature elegant scalloped rims.

The combination of sculptural metalwork and sparkling patterned glass creates an exceptionally decorative and harmonious composition.

An ingenious multifunctional centrepiece

Originally designed to embellish an elegant dining table, this sophisticated centrepiece combines two practical functions:

Upper glass vase: Designed to hold fresh flowers, allowing an attractive floral arrangement to rise above the table setting.
Lower circular dish: Ideal for presenting seasonal fruits, grapes, nuts, sweets or other delicacies.

The upper glass vase is removable, allowing the centrepiece to be dismantled for cleaning, storage or transport.

Such elaborate table decorations were particularly fashionable during the Belle Époque, when beautifully arranged dining tables played an important role in fashionable European households.

Origin and period

Presumed French origin, circa 1900–1910, during the late Belle Époque and Art Nouveau period.

The naturalistic metal decoration, elegant proportions and combination of decorative glass with ornamental metalwork are consistent with the taste and craftsmanship of this period.

Numbers are present underneath the metal base, although the manufacturer has not been identified.

Condition
In very good antique condition, with minor signs of age and use consistent with its period. The glass elements retain their attractive clarity and decorative appearance.
Please carefully examine the photographs, which form an integral part of the description.

Dimensions and weight
Total height: approximately 36.5 cm
Diameter: approximately 23 cm
Total weight: approximately 1.6 kg

A charming and elegant survivor of the Belle Époque, perfect as a decorative dining-table centrepiece, for an antique-inspired interior or as an eye-catching addition to an Art Nouveau collection.
