AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Antique Baroque-Style Picture Frame – Gilded and Carved Wood with Original Glass – Italy, Second Half of the 19th Century (circa 1870-1880).
Splendid and elegant period frame from the 19th century, finely made in carved wood and stucco with a rich gold leaf finish. The object perfectly embodies the standards of Italian Baroque/Rococo style (with strong references to the refined Florentine craftsmanship of the 1800s).
The external structure is a triumph of rich pierced carvings in vegetal motifs, dominated by broad serpentine foliate volutes and acanthus leaves that give movement and great dimensionality to the whole. The inner rectangular surround is adorned with a classic and elegant beaded molding, which frames the central space creating a clear geometric contrast with the exuberance of the outer openwork.
The frame retains its original period transparent glass, a rare detail of great collectible value that attests to its authenticity and historical integrity.
For its refinement, the object is superb as a high-end photo frame or to house antique prints and miniatures. Alternatively, the buyer could easily convert it into a splendid small table or wall mirror by replacing the glass with a mirror. A fascinating antique piece, ideal for enriching interiors, whether classic or eclectic.

Conditions (Please view photos carefully)

The item presents a genuine state of conservation, with patina and charm typical of its era. Structurally it is stable, but shows historical flaws that have been largely documented visually. Please look very closely at all detail photos, which are an integral part of the description, to assess the following points:
• A clear break with a missing piece on the left side, located at the upper end of a foliate scroll, showing the light-colored interior of the period stucco and the consequent absence of gilding at that point.
• A single continuous crack (historic settling crack) on the right side, running along the natural junction between the outer openwork and the inner beaded rectangular profile.
No recent restoration or camouflaging. An authentic, sincere, and fascinating piece, sold exactly as it is and as shown in the pictures.
