Description from the seller
Offer for sale:
Beautiful crucifixion group circa 1900
Andenne - figurine - Golgotha group
A special portrayal, crafted from fine porcelain from Andenne, known for its delicate workmanship and masterful details. This piece shows Christ on the cross, surrounded by three figures that reflect the mourning and devotion of the moment: the Holy Virgin Mary, Mary Magdalene, and the Apostle John.
Christ is depicted with a gentle but moving expression, wrapped in a subtle pink loincloth and wearing a crown of thorns on his head. The refined details of the body – such as the anatomy, the nail wounds, and the soft color nuances – attest to the high quality of this work.
Under the cross kneels Mary Magdalene, clad in a vivid blue-pink robe, reaching with emotion toward the foot of the cross. On the left stands the Holy Virgin Mary, dressed in a sober, dark garment with a deeply sorrowful expression and folded hands. On the right stands John, the beloved Apostle, in green and orange garments, observing the scene sadly.
The pedestal is richly decorated with hand-painted floral motifs and fine gilded accents. Pieces like these typically originate from the 19th century and were produced as devotional items or display pieces in chapels and in wealthier households.
The statue and the gilding are age-appropriate and in good condition with normal signs of use. The overall height is 48 cm. The figures are about 15 cm tall. The left hand of Mary Magdalene may have been restored. See photos; they are part of the description.
