A French men’s walking stick from 1930–1940, with a silver-plated sculpted rooster handle and a black-lacquered wooden shaft.
Description from the seller
Men's walking cane.
Finely worked and sculpted, silver-plated, featuring a highly detailed full-round sculpture depicting a rooster (not a generic animal).
The rooster is portrayed in a vigilant pose, with the comb and wattles clearly defined and a feathery, voluminous tail.
It rests on a cast rocky or naturalistic base.
It features a collar-like connector with the shaft.
Shaft: straight, smooth, and cylindrical, finished in wood with a black ebony-like lacquer finish.
Lower end finished with a protective rubber tip to prevent wear during use.
First half of the 20th century (circa 1920–1940).
This style of walking cane was a fundamental accessory of prestige and elegance for European bourgeoisie and aristocracy.
There are also style reproductions made in the second half of the 20th century.
Origin: France.
Canes of this craftsmanship were produced in important European artisanal and jewelry/silversmith workshops.
Stamp: undecipherable.
Length: 94 cm.
