Madagascar-origin moss agate sphere, a spherical specimen with natural druse cavities and dendritic green inclusions, weighing 920 g and measuring 87 mm across, from a collection.
Description from the seller
Fascinating mossy agate sphere from Madagascar, characterized by an extraordinary alternation of white chalcedony, semitransparent zones, and dense green dendritic inclusions. The spherical shape allows uninterrupted observation of the stone’s entire structure, revealing, with each rotation, ever-different mineral landscapes. The inclusions develop into thin, intricate branches, forming designs that recall mosses, lichens, forests viewed from above, and vegetation suspended in the fog. The hues range from sage green to forest green, with lighter, delicate transitions emerging within the translucent portions of the agate. Broad white and milky areas traverse the surface, creating a strong color contrast and highlighting the complexity of the green formations. One of the most evocative elements of the piece is the presence of several natural cavities lined with a brilliant druzy of tiny quartz crystals. These openings were intentionally preserved during workmanship and bear witness to the stone’s original structure. The exterior surface, carefully smoothed and polished, thus suddenly encounters the raw, sparkling aspect of the internal cavities. Moss agate is a chalcedony variety valued for mineral inclusions which, though not of vegetable origin, produce shapes surprisingly similar to botanical elements. In this specimen the remarkable density of inclusions, the variety of patterns, and the presence of crystallized geodes make the sphere particularly dramatic and rich in detail. A refined collectible and display piece, in which the geometric precision of the spherical form encloses a complex natural landscape, like a small mineral world.
