AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Rare large and heavy silver sprinkling shaker / sugar shaker.

The sprinkling shaker is especially beautiful in form and is fully hand-driven and chiselled with a lavish floral and foliage décor.

This is a special piece because of its construction and silver weight (85.8 grams).
The shaker has a fixed lid and is filled from the bottom. The base is sealed with a large, solid silver screw with a wing handle.

Everything is silver, including the heavy solid screw and the threading, which is rare - often the screw is made of another metal.

The vessel stands on a wide foot and has a bulged baluster form.

The entire body, the foot and the domed lid are richly decorated around with repoussé work of flowers, curls and acanthus leaves.

The underside has a fine matte texture, which makes the floral decor stand out beautifully.
The top of the lid features a spherical knop and is hollowed with sprinkling holes hidden in the floral motif.

The shaker is presumably from Germany and was imported earlier.

When imported into the Netherlands, the silver was assayed according to the Dutch (strict) silver content standards.
The piece, after approval, was marked with the old Dutch (import) silver fineness mark ZII.
This hallmark was struck on old foreign works circulating in the trade (2nd quality 835/1000 silver) see photos).

It is a sturdy, robust sprinkling shaker with a height of 8.4 cm and a diameter of 4.8 cm.
The shaker is quite heavy with its weight of 85.8 grams (unfilled or unweighted).

The piece, given its age, is around 100 years old and in particularly beautiful condition.

This rare handcrafted antique silver sprinkling shaker, due to its graceful form, lavish workmanship and exquisite floral decoration, is a striking and exceptionally decorative object.

The shaker has an extremely elegant appearance and is a jewel on your table.
The heavy solid silver screw seals the shaker 100% airtight, making it charming to use as well.

Well-packaged and insured shipping.
