Marino Piotti, known as Dean Marino, born in 1982, is an Italian sculptor/designer originally from Valtrompia. Since childhood he has a visceral relationship with the elements of his land. He creates sculptures from natural elements such as wood and iron, giving them new life, while maintaining a strong connection with his origins. His goal is to create an indispensable connection between man and nature. His mission is the regeneration of matter.

Natural knots and scars are an emanation of the Wabi-sabi philosophy that envelops the sculpture

HESO is a cedar coffee table worked with the yakisugi technique, an ancient Japanese method that uses heat to burn the wood, creating a fire-resistant surface that reveals the wonderful grain. The technique has been used in Japan for centuries and is still popular today.

The minimalist design and the Wabi-sabi philosophy it embodies make HESO a perfect addition to any modern environment. Its natural hole where a branch originated is the perfect embodiment of the Wabi-sabi philosophy. It is an excellent choice for those seeking a coffee table with a unique design that blends seamlessly into any setting. A great addition to any home, whether modern or more traditional.
Finished with oils and natural wax.

Technique used:
Yakisugi (焼杉) is a traditional Japanese method of wood preservation.
Yaki means to heat with fire and sugi is cedar. In the West it is referred to as burnt wood cladding and also known as shou sugi ban (焼杉板) which uses the same Kanji characters but with an incorrect pronunciation.
The ban character means "board".
By slightly carbonizing the wood surface without burning the entire piece, the wood becomes waterproof through carbonization and is therefore more resistant.
It also protects against insects, and makes the wood fire-retardant.

Philosophy:
Wabi-sabi (侘寂) is a view of the Japanese world, or aesthetic, based on accepting the transience and imperfection of things. This view, sometimes described as "beautiful imperfection, impermanence, and incompleteness," derives from the Buddhist doctrine of anitya (impermanence).
